Welcome

About the Conference

The Psi Chi Chapter at West Virginia University (WVU) is pleased to host the 18th Annual Tri-State Undergraduate Research Conference on Friday April 17, 2009. The Conference entails an undergraduate student poster session, oral presentations of research, a social luncheon, a key note speaker, and the annual Psychology Jeopardy competition.

In the Spring of 2008, Holding Every Life Precious (H.E.L.P.) came under the auspices of Psi Chi. H.E.L.P. was originally formed by a group of friends who experienced the loss of a beloved friend to suicide, and has since been revitalized with the mission of promoting mental health awareness, de-stigmatizing the seeking of help, and preventing suicide. Under Psi Chi, the H.E.L.P. Program sponsors various monthly awareness activities and works closely with the University Counseling Center. In keeping with the group’s mission, this year’s conference will have a suicide prevention theme. The confirmed keynote speaker will be Dr. Thomas Joiner, from Florida State University, a leading researcher in the suicide prevention field. To find out more about Dr. Joiner, please visit his website at http://www.psy.fsu.edu/faculty/joiner.dp.html.

The goal for the Conference is to celebrate the research of undergraduates, stimulate more undergraduate involvement, and emphasize the importance of suicide prevention on campus.

Psychology Jeopardy

The conference will include the annual Psychological Jeopardy competition, in which schools may sponsor a team of 3-5 undergraduates.  This is a high-spirited competition, and the winning school takes home a traveling 3 foot trophy to display for a year, until the next Tri-State Conference! Additionally, we are starting a new tradition for which we will award the "Most Spirited Jeopardy Team" with a prize that will later be announced. Team members will be given a few minutes before the competition to change into school-spirited outfits. Register your team for the Jeopardy competition and/ or the "Most Spirited Jeopardy Team" competition by following the link at the top of this page. The deadline is March 23, 2009.
